Description
The Pruen tomb chest, located approximately 30 meters north of the north-west corner of the Church of St Mary in Charlton Kings, is a Grade II listed structure. It commemorates Sarah Pruen, who died in 1808, and her husband Richard Pruen, who died in 1838. The tomb chest is made of limestone and is designed in the late Neo-Classical style. It features a shaped plinth with fluted pilasters at the corners, which are adorned with vases, and oval plaques at the ends. The sides include raised inscription panels, and the surmounting slab has a shaped underside. Richard Pruen was a solicitor in Cheltenham and passed away at Ashchurch Rectory, the home of his younger son. Sarah was the daughter of Samuel Lesingham, a banker from London.
