Description
The pair of houses at 99 and 101 Montpellier Terrace date to around 1820. They are constructed of ashlar facing brick, with a hipped slate roof and a stuccoed party-wall stack. The houses have a double-depth plan, with the house on the right having a full-height service range at the rear.
The exterior of the houses is three storeys high, with six windows on the first floor and a later extension to the rear of number 101. The design incorporates first- and second-floor bands, a crowning frieze and cornice, and a blocking course. The windows are mostly 6/6 sash windows, those on the first floor being taller. Basement windows are a mix of 4/8 and 2/2 sashes. All windows are set in plain reveals with sills. There are entrances at each end, featuring roll-edged steps leading to 6-panel doors with side-lights and wide fanlights featuring batwing and circle glazing bars. The porches are detailed with Ionic pilasters and architraves, friezes, and cornices. The rear of the houses primarily features 6/6 sash windows; number 101 has a round-arched 9/6 sash window to the staircase.
The interior retains original joinery, including panelled shutters, although the remainder of the interior was not inspected.
Subsidiary features include a continuous first-floor balcony featuring embellished rods, a lattice frieze, and a central scroll panel. The balcony divider has embellished rods and a scrolled overthrow.
