Description
Numbers 126 to 136 form a terrace of six houses with attached railings and gates to the basements, completed in 1833. The houses are constructed of stucco over brick, with concealed roofs, brick party-wall stacks, and iron railings. They have a double-depth plan with service wings to the rear.
The houses are three storeys high with basements, and feature a 21-window range on the first floor (three windows per house). Stucco detailing includes full-height Tuscan pilasters at the ends and between the houses, horizontal rustication to the ground floor drawn into the voussoirs above the entrances, first- and second-floor bands, a frieze, and a cornice. The windows are mostly tall 6/6 sashes, with the centre second-floor window of each house being blind. The basement windows are mainly 6/6 sashes. Steps lead to four-panel doors with fanlights featuring radial glazing bars. The rear elevation contains mainly 6/6 sashes, with some 8/8 sashes with margin-lights. The right return side has mainly blind openings and one sash.
The interiors have not been inspected. The iron railings to the sides of the steps and across the front with basement gates have alternate waved bars and a halberd motif. Individual window guards with oval and scroll motifs are present on the first-floor windows. Stick balusters are to the sides of the basement steps. A consistent design is maintained with scroll-type foot scrapers and bell pulls. The terrace was originally known as Paragon Buildings.
