Description
This villa, now converted into flats, was built around 1840-50. It is constructed of stucco over brick, with a hipped slate roof and tall stucco chimney stacks featuring cornices. The design is based on a double-depth plan with a central hallway and a service range at the rear.
The exterior is three storeys with three windows on the first floor, and includes a two-storey service range. A prominent central breakforward is a key feature. The stucco detailing includes horizontal rustication to the ground floor, topped by quoins marking the angles of the first and second floors, a moulded band at second-floor level, and wide eaves supported by brackets. The windows are mostly 6/6 sashes on the ground and first floors, with 8/8 sashes on the second floor. Ground-floor windows have blind boxes; first-floor windows have tooled architraves with panelled aprons; and second-floor windows have simple tooled architraves. A full-height porch with paired Doric pilasters, an entablature, and a pierced balustrade tops the central entrance. This porch has a round-arched opening containing double, recessed, panelled doors, flanked by round-arched windows with stained glass margin lights. The right return has a two-storey bow window above a basement level, with similar stucco detailing. The bow window has six tall, curved 6/6 sashes.
The interior retains original joinery and plasterwork. The villa was part of The Park development and occupies a corner location at the junction with The Park.
