Description

These are two semi-detached houses, numbered 59 Parkfield Lawn and 61 Park Gate, built around 1830 to 1850, in Cheltenham. They are stucco-faced over brick, with a hipped slate roof and stucco stacks at the centre, ends, and ridge.

The houses were originally designed with a breakforward in the centre of the facade, between two-window ranges, with a three-storey, single-bay tower projecting forward to the right. Later additions have altered the appearance of the facade, but the original details remain visible. The ground floor of the centre breakforward has horizontal rustication and a cornice supported by console brackets above the windows, with a moulded string above the first-floor windows. The first-floor windows have tooled architraves. The original windows are mostly 6/6 sashes, but the ground-floor windows in the breakforward are 2/2 horizontal-pane sashes. All windows are in plain reveals with sills. There are panelled front doors with overlights containing glazing bars, accessed by flights of steps set back slightly from the ends of the breakforward. The eaves are wide and supported by brackets. The interiors were not inspected.
