Description
Numbers 31, 33, and 35, along with their attached railings, form a terrace of three houses dating to approximately 1820 to 1830. The houses are constructed with stucco over brick, with concealed roof and brick party-wall stacks. They feature wrought-iron verandahs and a basement balustrade.
The three-storey terrace has six first-floor windows, two per house. Architectural detailing includes horizontal bands on the facade. The first floor has tall 6/6 sash windows, the ground floor has 8/8 sashes, and the second floor has 3/3 sashes, all in plain reveals with sills. The entrances on the left-hand side feature six-panel doors with fluted friezes, each topped with a fanlight containing radial glazing. A low parapet and copings complete the exterior. The rear of the houses also has 6/6 and 3/3 sash windows; houses 33 and 35 have fanlights at first-floor level, the fanlight to number 33 featuring decorative glazing.
The interior retains original joinery, including window shutters in some rooms. The balustrades across the basements and to the side of the entrance doors to numbers 33 and 35 have a concentric circle motif. Number 31 features stick balusters. Arrowhead railings are present at the left end of the terrace. The verandahs incorporate rod and concentric circle motifs in the balustrade, scrolled uprights with an openwork frieze, and tent roofs. The terrace was shown on Merrett's Map of 1834 as Oxford Villas.
