Description
Two chest tombs located 35 meters north-northwest of the northwest corner of the Church of St Mary in Charlton Kings. These tombs date from the 19th century. The first is an altar-type tomb chest dedicated to Charlotte Middleton, who died in 1820. It features raised panels on the sides, a band, a frieze, and a shaped cap. The second tomb chest belongs to Thomas Royds, whose death date is partially obscured. This tomb is designed in the Greek Revival style and includes a shaped plinth, fluted corners, a shaped cornice, and a slab, with the tomb slightly splaying outwards. Thomas Royds was last known to reside at Green Hill in Lancashire.
