Description
This is a threshing barn dating from the early 18th century, located next to the coach house and stables of Sydenham House in Marystow. The barn is constructed from stone rubble and has a roof made of slate and corrugated asbestos, gabled at the north end. It originally had a loft above and is attached to the stable and coach house block to the north.
The barn features two opposed doors and an outshut for storage on the east side, which has a catslide roof and a loft above. There is evidence of rebuilding at the south end, and the outshut is likely an addition. The two large entrances are topped with timber lintels, while the west side has blocked ventilation slits. The outshut includes two entrances and two loft entrances at the south end, along with another loft entrance on the east side, which has ventilation slits for the ground floor.
Inside, the barn consists of ten bays supported by pegged collar rafter trusses, with the seven northernmost trusses featuring double collars. The north gable of the barn is slate-hung and has three ground floor entrances under timber lintels, as well as an entrance above leading to the former loft.
