Description
Southcott is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. The walls are rendered cob, and the roof is gabled and thatched. A brick stack is located at the left gable end and a projecting rendered rubble stack, with a tall brick shaft, is at the front. The original layout of the rooms is not entirely clear, but it likely began as a two-room plan, with each room heated and separated by a central passage, and has probably been altered in the 20th century. The exterior is two storeys and features an asymmetrical three-window front with mid-to-late 20th-century casement windows. A 20th-century plank door is centrally positioned. A lean-to, open-fronted porch, dating from the 19th or early 20th century, is on the right-hand end next to the lateral stack, and has a 20th-century glazed door. The interior was inaccessible during the survey, but may contain original ceiling beams and fireplaces, and possibly an early roof structure.
