Description
Gate-piers, wall, and doorway located about 10 meters east of Venn House date from the early 19th century, possibly incorporating an earlier doorway from the original Venn House, which dates to the early 17th century. The structure features granite piers and a doorway, along with a wall made of a mix of granite and slatestone rubble. There are a pair of square granite piers, each about 2 meters high, with shaped tops and large acorn finials. These flanking piers are connected by a wall that sweeps around to the left and right, measuring approximately 3 meters long and 1.5 meters high, topped with coping made of mixed squared rubble. At the time of the survey in July 1985, two similar terminal piers were completely overgrown with ivy. The wall extends about 75 meters to the northwest and features a granite doorway with a roll-moulded, four-centred arch, carved spandrels, a pediment, and a finial, which were also overgrown with ivy. The doorway includes a 19th-century studded door with strap hinges.
