Description
The stair tower, located approximately 52 metres north-north-west of the old kitchen barn, is a Grade II listed structure originally part of a vicarage that no longer exists. It dates from the early 16th century and features stone rubble walls with granite ashlar quoins and dressings. The tower is roofless and has newel stairs that rise two storeys, with a very small room on the ground floor, likely used for storage. The relationship of this structure to the main vicarage is unclear due to the demolition of adjoining rooms.
The tower stands two storeys tall, with splayed corners and a chamfered plinth. Its front is asymmetrical, showcasing chamfered granite. To the right, there is a Tudor arched doorway leading to the newel stairs. To the left, a chamfered granite doorway with a slightly curved head provides access to the small unlit room. On the side and rear, there are two-light granite mullion windows, which are hollow chamfered and feature hoodmoulds on the first floor, along with a similar blocked window on the ground floor at the rear. Inside, the newel stairs are finely constructed from dressed granite.
