Description
Thornbury Cottage is a cottage dating from the early to mid-18th century, with 19th and 20th-century extensions. The walls are made of rendered rubble and cob, topped with a thatched roof that has a gabled front range and a hipped rear wing. There are two gable end stacks, with the left-hand stack made of brick and the right-hand stack constructed from projecting rendered rubble with a brick shaft. The layout consists of a two-room plan with a one-room and stair wing behind the left-hand room. Both front rooms are heated, although the left-hand stack may have been added later. A rear wing features a 19th-century outshut, and a single-storey extension was added in the late 20th century. The cottage is two storeys high and has a regular two-window front with 20th-century two-light small-paned casements. There is a 20th-century lean-to porch at the right-hand end. At the rear, the hipped wing on the right has a one-storey extension in front of it and a 19th-century outshut to the left. The interior was inaccessible during the survey, but most original features seem to be hidden.
