Description
The building is a former stable located immediately north of the Methodist Chapel in Sampford Courtenay, dating from the early 19th century. It features unplastered cob walls set on a stone rubble plinth, with a hipped roof that has been re-clad in corrugated iron sheets, likely replacing the original thatch. The stable has a rectangular plan, with stables on the right side and a tack-room on the left, both having entrances at the front. The east front is asymmetrical and consists of three bays, with a central doorway leading to the stables, a small square window to the right, and a doorway to the tack-room on the left. All doorways have old plank doors, and the window has plank shutters, with exposed timber lintels above. The interior has not been inspected. This building is an intact example of a small cob stable range located near the center of the village and adjacent to other listed buildings.
