Description
This is a house, formerly a rectory, dating from around the early 19th century, with a crosswing likely originating from the 17th century and a circa 19th-century cottage set at right angles to the main block. The main block is constructed of stone rubble with a plinth and set-back pilasters, featuring a slate roof hipped at the ends. It has rendered stacks with grey brick chimney shafts, incorporating blind recesses on each face. The house has a double-depth plan with a gabled rear projection, likely housing the staircase. The crosswing at the left end, under a lower slate roof, probably dates from the 17th century and may have originally formed part of a house on the site, later adapted as a service wing when the main block was built.
The main block has a symmetrical five-bay front with a central double-leaf panelled front door, surmounted by a depressed arched fanlight with ornamental glazing; the doorway soffit is panelled to match the door. It has 12-pane sash windows, the ground floor windows set beneath flat cut stone arches. A smaller 9-pane sash window is located on the ground floor to the left. A small 20th-century window has been inserted to the left of the front door. The crosswing's front elevation has a hipped roof to the left and an adjoining bay with a lean-to roof. It contains a casement window with glazing bars, and at the rear, two late 18th/early 19th-century 16-pane sashes. A circa 19th-century rear door to the main block features a moulded stone cornice on moulded stone consoles.
The circa 19th-century cottage, situated at a right angle to the main block, is constructed of stone rubble, partially plastered and colourwashed to the front, with a gabled slate roof and stone and lateral stacks. It runs parallel to the crosswing across a narrow court and is linked to it by a pentice carried on posts. The cottage is two storeys with an asymmetrical four-window front and two front doors. The right-hand windows are 20th-century replacements, while the left-hand windows are 2- and 3-light casements with glazing bars.
The interior of the main block has been modernized with 20th-century fireplaces, though some 19th-century shutters remain. The crosswing's ground floor front room features stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops and may contain other early features.
