Description
This stable, located about 10 meters north-west of Wortham, dates from the early 19th century, although the lower walls may be older. The ground floor is constructed of stone rubble, while the first floor features masonry brought to course and is partly plastered. The roof is hipped at both ends and covered with asbestos slate. The building has two storeys, with a large 20th-century entrance on the left side of the front, which is supported by a steel lintel, and a smaller central doorway. There is an unglazed window on the right side of the ground floor. On the first floor, there are two loft entrances and pigeon holes on the front. Inside, timber partitions and mangers are still present. Among the stored items in the stables is a large 17th-century Beerstone moulded chimney piece, which may have been brought from Antony in the mid-20th century and was once part of the hall stack at Wortham.
