Mill Building Approximately 15 Metres To South Of Hatch Mill Farmhouse

The mill building, dated 1861, is located approximately 15 metres south of Hatch Mill Farmhouse in Buckland Monachorum. It was built by M L Lopez, who was the lord of the manor at that time. The structure features granite rubble walls and a gable end slate roof, originally comprising three storeys with a single room on each floor. The front is asymmetrical, with a door on the right and a window on the left on the ground floor, both framed by brick arches. A tall window on the left serves the first and second floors, and there is a row of pigeon holes beneath the eaves. A date stone with the initials M.L. Lopez is positioned to the right of centre on the second floor. Although the waterwheel has been removed from the left gable end, the axle remains. Inside, some machinery is still present, though larger pieces have been taken out. This site has had a mill since medieval times, and while this building is relatively late, it signifies the ongoing history of the mill site and complements the older farmhouse.
