Description

Shaugh Mill is a 19th-century building constructed from rubble stone with granite quoins and a bitumenised slate roof. The main mill structure is square in shape, with outbuildings located to the west. At the rear of the mill, the wheel pit remains, along with stone piers that once supported the launder, or water channel.

The mill stands two storeys high, with a loft. The principal south elevation features three bays, including a garage door on the right and a small segmental-headed window on the left. The first floor has three 20th-century windows. The east elevation has a flight of steps leading to an inserted doorway, with two windows in the loft area. The water wheel has been removed from the north elevation. To the west of the mill, there is an outbuilding that may have served as a stable, featuring three ground floor openings and a former hayloft above, inscribed with "ML 1871." Attached to the west side of this outbuilding is a single-storey lean-to with three openings, which may have been a pigsty.

Inside, the mill does not retain any historic machinery associated with its original function. However, stone corbels supporting the first floor indicate that this level once housed heavy equipment. The roof of the mill is believed to be intact, but the floor joists and the roof of the hayloft above the stable have been replaced.
