Description
Kellacott Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely has a core dating from the late 17th century, with extensions or remodels made around the late 18th century. The building is constructed of whitewashed rendered cob and features a corrugated asbestos roof that was formerly thatched. It has gabled ends and rendered gable end stacks. The layout is a single depth plan with two heated rooms at either end and an unheated central half-room that contains the main staircase. The development of the house is somewhat unclear, as the floor level at the lower end is approximately one meter below that of the higher end. An internal doorway between these two ends has been blocked, and there are separate front entrances for each end. The original plan may have consisted of three rooms with a cross passage, which was later rebuilt at the higher end, or it could have started as a two-cell cottage that was extended at the higher end.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical two-window front. The front door leads directly into the central half-room, with an additional entrance at the front for the lower end. On the ground floor, the left window is a two-light casement with six panes per light, while the right window is a 20th-century addition. The first floor features a wide casement window with glazing bars at the higher end, which projects slightly above the eavesline, and a two-light casement window with two panes per light at the lower end.
Inside, the lower end room on the right has a chamfered ceiling beam and exposed joists. The large fireplace in this room has a chamfered lintel with mason's mitres for the chamfered jambs. The stairs in the lower end have been replaced.
