Description
This is a group of barns and a stable located approximately 20 meters east of Great Huxhill Farmhouse, dating from the 18th century. The buildings are constructed of rendered stone and cob, topped with gabled corrugated iron roofs. The layout is in an L-shape, with the threshing barn in the wing to the west, closest to the farmhouse, and a wing projecting to the north that includes a hay barn and stable.
The threshing barn features a central threshing bay, with an entrance flanked by projecting cheeks and supported by a heavy pegged wood frame. There is an outshut to the left. The stable has a 19th-century plank loft door situated above a plank stable door, which is fitted with strap hinges. The central bay of the hay barn also has a heavy pegged frame with projecting cheeks.
Inside, the threshing barn boasts an 8-bay A-frame roof with trenched purlins, pegged lap-jointed collars, and a ridge purlin set in notched apexes. The hay barn has a similar 6-bay roof.
