Description
The finger post at Gammaton Cross is a cast iron structure believed to date from the 1880s. It is located at the crossroads in Gammaton, standing on the verge on the west side of the intersection. The post is circular and features the inscription 'GAMMATON CROSS' along its shaft. It has four arms indicating directions to Newton Tracey, Bideford, Torrington, and Horwood, with the respective distances to each location marked in miles. The arm pointing to Newton Tracey has sustained some damage. At the top of the finger post is a pyramidal finial, which displays the letter B, possibly representing Bideford Parish.
