Description
This is a pair of chest tombs located about 8 meters south-west of the porch of the Church of St Leonard, dating from the early 19th century. They are constructed from stone rubble and topped with slate lids. The southern tomb commemorates Richard Banbury, who died in 1808. Its slate lid features a border of scratch mouldings and has an unusual inscription detailing a bequest for poor children attending catechism. The northern tomb honors Lewis Braund, who also died in 1808, along with other members of the Braund family. The lid of this tomb is signed as engraved by "Richd Sillifant (?) Jun: Tetcott" and includes a poetic charity inscription that outlines a bequest intended to support local laborers. The lid also displays armorial bearings within a roundel. These tombs are notable for their distinctive inscriptions.
