Description
Orchard is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the early to mid 17th century, with 20th-century alterations. It features colourwashed render over coursed slatestone rubble and has a gabled 20th-century tile roof. The building has a three-unit plan that extends to an L-shape with a front left wing. It is two storeys high and has a three-window range. There is an early 20th-century half-glazed door to the left, with flat rendered arches above early 20th-century two-light casements that have glazing bars. At the rear, there is a 19th-century outshut that adjoins a 17th-century stair turret, which has two 17th-century two-light chamfered wood-mullioned windows. To the left, there is an extension from around 1950, with a hipped Welsh slate roof, attached to an 18th-century service range positioned at right angles. This service range is made of stone and cob, has a 20th-century tile roof, and features a large external stone stack with a bread-oven projection. Inside, the central hall has a flat stone arch over an open fireplace and two 17th-century studded and panelled doors, one set in an ovolo-moulded wood architrave. There are stone winder stairs leading to the rear, but the first floor has not been inspected.
