Description
Pitt Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the mid 17th century and was extended in the 18th century. It features stone rubble walls with some cob at the top and is partly rendered. The roof is gable-ended and covered with asbestos slate. There are brick and stone rubble stacks at the right and left gable ends, respectively. The original layout consisted of a two-room plan with only the right-hand room heated and a direct entry. An additional heated room was added to the left-hand end in the early 18th century.
The cottage is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with three windows, which are 19th-century two-light casements, some of which have small panes. To the left of the doorway, there is a single-light casement. The doorway features a 20th-century part-glazed door. There is a straight joint to the left of centre, marking the boundary between the original house and the extension. A 19th or early 20th-century plank door is located at the left end.
The interior was inaccessible during the survey, but it is known to contain two open fireplaces with wooden lintels. According to a survey by Dr. N. Alcock, the interior may also include some 17th-century details and roof trusses of interest.
