Description
This building is a threshing barn located about 70 meters west of Tetcott Manor. It is probably from the 17th century or earlier and was extended in the 18th or 19th century. The barn is constructed from stone rubble and has a scantle slate roof that is hipped at the left end, while the right end features large slates and is also hipped. It is a large structure with a gabled porch at the front that has full-height double doors. An internal joint in the masonry and the change in roofing material suggest that the right end was rebuilt or extended. The barn is single-storey and has a long asymmetrical front, with the gabled porch and the remains of a stone round house adjoining the front on the right. There is a large ventilation slit to the right of the porch and a smaller doorway with a timber lintel further to the right. Inside, the roof trusses over the right end date from the 20th century, while the tie beam and collar trusses over the left end are likely from the late 19th century. This barn is an example of a large early barn associated with an important manor house and is part of a group of buildings that includes Tetcott church.
