Description
This is an outbuilding, likely constructed as a deer shelter, dating from around 1700. It features two rows of 12 brick and stone piers supporting a gabled corrugated iron roof, with vertical oak planking on the gable ends. The building has a rectangular plan, is one storey high with an attic, and consists of 5 by 2 bays. It is open-fronted and has a gabled loft door on the east elevation. Inside, there is a 5-bay 4-frame roof with trenched purlins and pegged collars that are halved into principals, some of which are reused. The building's location in parkland and its characteristics suggest it was built as a deer shelter, which is a rare survival, especially in Devon.
