Description

The Old Inn is a house that was formerly a village public house, built around 1877. It is constructed of plastered stone rubble with stone stacks and 19th-century brick chimney shafts, one of which is plastered. The roof is covered with slate. The building has a one-plan layout facing east, with the main block positioned end onto the lane. It features a two-room plan, with both rooms heated by a lateral stack located on the right (south) side. A kitchen block extends at right angles to the north of the rear room and includes a gable-end stack. The structure stands three storeys tall and has a one-window front. The ground floor features a canted bay window with fixed panes and glazing bars, matching the 16-pane sashes above it. The front doorway is situated to the left and contains a four-panel door. The roof is hipped at the front. The interior has not been inspected. This building was part of the Rolle estate village, and the nearby Stevenstone Court, the main house in the parish, was rebuilt between 1872 and 1873, with the entire village, including the Church of St Giles, being remodeled shortly thereafter.
