Description
Nos. 6 and 8 and Nos. 1, 2 and 3 Old Inn Mews is a row of five cottages, originally built as three houses, with origins dating back to the 17th century. The buildings were remodeled and extended in the late 18th or early 19th century. They are constructed of plastered cob or stone and feature slate roofs with gabled ends.
The layout includes two cottages on the right, Nos. 1 and 2 Old Inn Mews, which were likely originally one house with a lateral stack at the rear of No. 2. A carriageway has been inserted between these two cottages. In the late 18th or early 19th century, a pair of houses was added on the left, with No. 8 later subdivided in the late 20th century to create two cottages, Nos. 6 and 8 Well Street.
The exterior is two stories high with eight windows on the first floor, mostly small sashes with glazing bars. The entrances are plain, featuring 20th-century panelled doors, and there is a plain carriageway to the right. At the rear, No. 2 Old Inn Mews has a large lateral stack. Inside, No. 8 Well Street contains a late 18th or early 19th-century panelled door and an early to mid-19th-century staircase with a column newel and stick balusters.
