Description
This is an outbuilding located approximately 15 meters north-northwest of Chaltaborough, dating from the early 17th century, with possible earlier origins. It is constructed of coursed slatestone rubble, with some cob, and features a gabled corrugated iron roof, with pantiles on the left side. There is a 17th-century stone end stack on the right.
The building has a three-unit plan, which includes an early 17th-century one-unit house on the right. The house is two stories high and has a two-window range. It features a timber lintel over a plank door that is set in an ovolo-moulded wood architrave, and there is a 17th-century label mould over the window to the left. On the first floor, there is a 17th-century two-light chamfered stone-mullioned window to the left and a 17th-century two-light ovolo-moulded wood-mullioned window to the right.
The central range has a timber lintel over a loft door, with stone lintels over the door and flanking windows. There is also a timber lintel over the door to the left. Inside, the house to the right features plain 17th-century joists and stone winder stairs that adjoin a chamfered bressummer over an open fireplace, which includes a cloam oven.
