Description
The Newman chest tomb and railings, located immediately south of the vestry of the Church of St Thomas, date from the early 19th century. The tomb is made of stone and features a high-quality chest with half-balusters at the corners. Its finely-carved lid includes a strapwork border, armorial bearings with mantling carved in relief, and a carved inscription in Gothic lettering that notes the Newman family vault and is dated 1843. The iron railings surrounding the tomb have cylindrical verticals topped with pointed finials and columnar corner balusters.
