Description
The terrace steps and urns are located in the formal garden south of Dawlish College, which was originally Mamhead House. They were designed by Anthony Salvin for Sir R.W. Newman between 1827 and 1833. Constructed from Bathstone, the terrace features six flights of steps, with the upper flights oriented to the south and west, adorned with flower pots shaped like urns. This feature is an integral part of the formal garden and is significant to the setting of Mamhead House. The design is illustrated in one of Salvin's original drawings held in the R.I.B.A. Drawings Collection.
