Description
A toll house dating to approximately 1827. The building is constructed of painted stucco and has a slate roof with a rendered stack to the rear. It follows a double-depth plan, featuring an office within a canted bay to the front. The exterior presents a symmetrical single-window arrangement. The windows are 6/6-pane sashes and the ground floor features banded rustication and a platband, alongside three segmental-arched recesses articulated by panelled pilasters with moulded caps to the angles of the canted bay. A blind window sits above a six-panel door. The interior was noted to retain original features, though it has not been inspected. A Plymouth stone ashlar wall is attached to the left (south) side of the toll house and connects with Shaldon Bridge. This is a well-preserved example of an early 19th-century toll house, prominently positioned next to Shaldon Bridge.
