Description

Willow Dene and Willow Grove are a pair of houses that were originally one house, dating from the 17th century or earlier. They were extended in the 18th century and have 20th-century additions at the rear. The buildings feature rendered rubble walls and a gable-ended slate roof, with three rendered rubble lateral stacks, two of which project more prominently. The original layout was a three-room plan with a through passage, where the lower end is to the right. There is a rear lateral stack serving the hall and inner room, along with newel stairs that project at the back of the hall/inner room. In the 18th century, an additional heated room was added at the lower end. The house was divided into two, either during this extension or in the 19th century. The 20th-century addition is located at the rear of the right-hand end. Both houses are two storeys tall, with Willow Dene on the left and Willow Grove on the right. Each has a regular three-window front featuring early 20th-century casements with glazing bars and a central 20th-century gabled glazed porch. Willow Grove has a 19th-century panelled door, while Willow Dene has a 20th-century part-glazed door. At the rear, there is a rounded stair projection to the right of centre and a 20th-century wing to the left. The interior of Willow Dene is accessible; the right-hand former inner room includes a chamfered unstopped cross beam.
