Description
Powderham Lodge is a house dating from the 18th century or early 19th century, with later additions from the 19th and early 20th centuries. It is colourwashed and rendered, likely constructed from cob and stone, with an early 20th-century brick rear wing. The main block features an ornamental tiled roof that is gabled at both ends and has deep verges, while the rear wing has a slate roof. There are end stacks with brick shafts, three of which have attractive chimneypots.
The layout consists of a main block that is two rooms wide and single depth, extended at the rear by a one-room plan wing, likely from the late 19th century, which was further extended around 1906 according to information from the occupier. The house is two storeys tall and has a symmetrical three-bay front. In the centre, there is a charming gabled porch supported by posts, topped with a tiled roof, which leads to a 19th-century panelled front door. The windows are small pane timber casements from the 18th or 19th century. On the right side of the main block, there is an early 20th-century canted bay window. The rear brick wing features timber sash windows with three over one panes.
The interior is plain. The lodge has group value with the thatched houses located at the entrance to Powderham Castle.
