Description

The Village Cross is a re-erected medieval cross located in Shillingford St George. It features a medieval crosshead and part of a shaft, set on a later base made of breccia. The tapering chamfered shaft and crosspiece are notable elements. According to Masson Phillips, the cross was originally taken from a garden in Shillingford Abbot, a hamlet associated with Torre Abbey. After spending some time in a churchyard, it was re-erected at its current location as a war memorial.
