Description

The Cottage is a cottage, likely dating from the early 19th century, and believed to have been used as a schoolroom. It is constructed of colourwashed rendered cob with a hipped thatched roof and a brick stack at the right end. A single-storey brick addition extends from the rear left end. The original plan comprised one principal heated room at the front and a two-storey rear outshut housing services. The outshut is extended as a single-storey gabled block at the left end. An entrance doorway within the outshut faces a corresponding doorway in the rear wall of the main front room. A straight staircase runs axially against the rear wall of the front room. The outshut may be an addition to what was originally a smaller, single-cell cottage. The cottage is two storeys high, with an asymmetrical front elevation featuring a ground-floor two-light window with six panes per light, and a first-floor three-light window with a similar metal frame. The right return side has three small-pane casement windows. A three-plank front door, set within an arched doorway, leads into the rear outshut. The interior has not been inspected. The cottage occupies a corner site and represents a small, vernacular cob and thatch building with no detrimental alterations.
