Description

The Rectory is an early 19th century rectory, though it was partly demolished and re-roofed in 1963. The house is now approximately half its original size, having been truncated on the west side in 1963. It is cement rendered, with a hipped concrete tile roof and brick stacks. The original entrance remains on the north side, previously off-centre, but now roughly central, leading into a narrow passage with a central stair hall. The north elevation has an approximately central Regency porch. This is a rusticated projecting bay with a verandah supported by iron posts. Below the verandah are two 2-light windows with arched heads and intersecting glazing bars. Above the porch, a former 2-light window, previously a glazed door leading to a polygonal balcony, is visible. Flanking the porch are 1-light windows with cranked heads in square-headed architraves. The east elevation incorporates a ground floor canted bay window with pilasters and 2-pane lights. A French window, with a cranked head and spandrels, is located to the right. Three 2-light first floor casements with small panes, cranked heads and spandrels are also present. The south elevation features a 2-storey bow in the centre with ground floor French windows, glazing bars and spandrels above. A pair of similar 2-light casements are situated above this. To the left, there are 2-light Tudor arched casements with glazing bars. The interior retains many contemporary features, including joinery, chimney-pieces and ornamental plaster friezes. The principal room on the south side is oval and has an Adam style chimney-piece. Despite the drastic alterations of 1963, the Rectory retains features of special interest. An illustration of the building prior to 1963, showing a verandah on the east side and the complete porch ironwork, is held by the incumbent.
