Description

1, 2, and 3 Home Farm Cottages are a group of estate cottages located on the Mamhead Estate. They date from the early 19th century, with later alterations in the late 20th century. The cottages are built of stone rubble with red sandstone dressings, and feature a thatched roof with hipped ends, as well as two axial chimneys with brick shafts. The cottages exhibit an ornamental style.

The plan is approximately rectangular, with a central front projection. The original oversailing verandahs on the first floor of the left and right sides have been altered; the left-hand verandah has been filled in.

The cottages are single-storey with an attic. Originally, the front facade was symmetrical with three bays, featuring a central gabled projection with curly pierced bargeboards and a pendant in the apex. The central bay initially contained a three-light casement window on the first floor and a four-light casement below, both glazed with 20th-century timber casements with glazing bars. A 20th-century front door is located to the right of the projection, under the verandah. To the left, the verandah has been filled in with 20th-century windows. Attic dormers are present to the left and right, each with two-light 20th-century timber casements with glazing bars and curly bargeboards. There are two attic dormers on each return, and one ground floor window on each return.

The interior has not been inspected.

The cottages form a group with Home Farm, located opposite. The listing was subject to a minor amendment on 27 September 2017.
