Description
This building is a barn and horse engine house, likely dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of English bond brick, with the bricks being slightly larger than those of the nearby house. The barn features a hipped corrugated iron roof at both ends and has a rectangular plan. Attached to it is a round weatherboarded horse engine house topped with a tall peaked corrugated iron roof. The barn is single storey, with the west elevation displaying two tall round-headed blocked doorways that have been converted into windows, and two similar doorways on the east elevation. Inside, there are pegged roof trusses that reflect its 18th-century character. The barn has group value with Brickhouse. A watercolour by Swete from 1796, titled "Brickhouse from the meadow," depicts the end of a building that is likely this barn.
