Description

Ridge Cottage is a cottage dating from the early 19th century, with a rear extension added in the late 20th century. The exterior is whitewashed and rendered, topped with a thatched roof that has gabled ends and projecting end stacks with set-offs and brick shafts. The original structure consists of two rooms wide and a single depth, likely with the stair located next to the left end stack. The rear addition and modifications have altered the exterior, and features such as the dripmoulds and bargeboards mentioned in a 1952 listing no longer exist. The cottage is two storeys high with a symmetrical front that has three windows arranged regularly. A central thatched porch with solid side walls leads to a modern outer door. The eaves of the thatch are eyebrowed over two first-floor two-light casement windows, each with eight panes. The ground floor features three-light casement windows, also with eight panes. There are diamond-shaped one-light windows on the left side, which may illuminate the stair. Although the early 19th-century Tudor style details have been lost, Ridge Cottage remains an attractive thatched cottage characteristic of the region.
