Description

The Manor is an old people's home that was formerly a vicarage, built in the early 19th century. The building is stuccoed and features a hipped slate roof with a central valley, along with two rendered lateral stacks on each wall, except for the front (southeast) elevation. It has a square plan and is double depth, consisting of two principal rooms and a central corridor that leads into a stair hall and service rooms at the rear. There is also a flat-roofed single-storey addition from the 20th century on the northeast elevation. The Manor is two storeys high and has a symmetrical five-bay front with a plain parapet. The central round-headed doorway is topped with a glazed fanlight and has a panelled soffit beneath an open pediment. The original front door has four fielded panels and two flush panels. The windows feature 12-pane hornless sashes. The side and rear elevations do not have a parapet. Inside, several original features remain, including doors, doorcases, and a staircase with stick balusters, a ramped handrail, and turned newels. There are also remnants of decorated plaster cornices in the ground floor room on the right. The Manor is a notable example of a large early 19th-century house, with a front elevation that is prominent from the southeast.
