Description

The gatehouse, gatehouse cottage, inner gate, and connecting walls located 40 metres west of Denbury Manor were built around 1912-1914. The structure is made of stone rubble with ashlar dressings and features a high-quality slated roof made of small slates. The gatehouse and cottage have a stone-coped gable at the right end and a brick stack at the left end.

The gatehouse has a tall, wide opening with a 4-centred arch, featuring studded plank double doors with ornate wrought-iron strap-hinges. To the right of the gatehouse, there is a smaller door leading into a two-storey section, along with two slit windows on the ground storey and one on the second storey. The cottage to the left is two windows wide, with segmental-headed windows that have 6-pane bevel sashes on the ground storey and casements with leaded lights on the second storey, which may have been added later.

The rear arch of the gatehouse displays the Curtis arms above and is flanked by buttresses, which have their outer faces buttressed as well. The inner gate is a large opening with a 4-centred arch set in a boundary wall with pitched coping. The connecting walls are similar in design. The north wall features a large opening like the inner gate but has a raised parapet above it. Each wall has a small matching doorway at the north-east end, with round arches and raised parapets above. The doorway on the south side, which leads into the garden, has a plank door with ornate strap-hinges. Information about the date of construction was provided by Mrs. Tate of Denbury.
