5/104 - Hele Farmhouse

  • II

Farmhouse. Late C16 or C17; possibly earlier. Solid, roughcast walls. Hipped, wheat reed thatched roof, steeply pitched. Projecting chimneystack in left-hand gable-wall; large stack, with added red brick shaft, in rear wall at right-hand side. 2-room plan with lean-to projection at rear, on left-hand side. 2 storeys. 4-window front, all windows with C20 small-paned wood casements. Doorway, in second bay from right, has C20 glazed door and wooden porch. Interior not inspected. Tile 2 main ground-storey rooms (seen through windows) have large open fireplaces with wooden lintels; heavy, old ceiling-beams. Steep pitch of roof suggests this house may have an early roof structure.
