Description
Higher Sigford Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th or 17th century, with minor additions at the rear. It features solid rendered walls, likely made of stone or cob, and a slated roof. The building has large rendered chimneystacks that project from the right-hand gable wall and on the ridge, which is off-centre to the left. The original layout is uncertain, but the farmhouse is long enough to have contained the traditional three rooms, and it has a large stair turret at the rear.
The structure is two storeys high and has a four-window front. The upper storey features 19th-century wood casement windows with glazing bars, while the ground-storey windows are from the 20th century. There is a doorway in the third bay from the left, which has a 20th-century door with a pent-roofed hood above. The interior has undergone significant alterations, but early features likely remain beneath the plaster. In the upper storey, the right-hand gable fireplace boasts a large carved granite surround with three-quarter-round moulding, and the lintel is inscribed with the date 1665 in a shaped, spiky frame. The roof timbers are old, although they are plastered and boarded in.
