Description

This is a symmetrical terrace of three houses located on Courtenay Park Road in Newton Abbot. Dating from the mid-19th century, it was constructed as part of the Courtenay Park development, which was laid out in 1854.

The houses are built of painted stucco with continuous, wide-eaved slate roofs and stacks to the returns and party walls. They have double-depth plans. The external appearance is defined by a 1:4:1 fenestration pattern, with projecting gabled outer bays stepped forward. Originally, the terrace featured a plain eaves band, a continuous moulded sill band, and a plinth. All windows, with the exception of those in number 4, have bracketed sills, which also form the sill band; the ground floor windows are tripartite and topped with shallow plain pediments. The gabled terminal bays originally had rusticated quoins (these have been removed from number 4), semicircular-arched windows with radial glazing bars to the first floor, and entrances in the returns. Number 4 has plate-glass windows and the original mouldings have been removed. Number 5 has 20th-century windows and door, alongside a semicircular rusticated arch above the entrance. Number 6 retains its original sash windows. The interior has not been inspected.
