Description

These are four adjoining houses located in Stokeinteignhead, dating from the 18th century or possibly earlier. The construction combines cob and stone rubble with rendered or plastered surfaces, and a thatched roof, hipped at the ends of the main range. Chimneys are located at the ends of the main range and at the rear right wing. The houses are arranged in an "L" shape, with Nos. 1 and 2 Myrtle Cottages forming a wing at a right angle to Mole End and Dean Cottage, which face onto Deane Road.

The main facade has an asymmetrical arrangement of windows, with a two-window, three-window, one-window pattern. The thatch of the roof projects above the four leftmost first-floor windows, creating a distinctive eyebrow effect. Mole End, the leftmost house, has a front door positioned to the right, sheltered by a thatched porch supported by posts. It features a 20th-century timber door and casement windows with square leaded panels. Dean Cottage is double-fronted, with a 20th-century central front door and a small glazed porch, alongside three-light 20th-century timber casement windows with glazing bars. The right end of the main block forms No. 2 Myrtle Cottages and has a single first-floor and a single ground-floor window, both being 2-light timber casements with glazing bars. The rear return side of the building has three first-floor windows, a 20th-century front door, and a single-storey lean-to extension with a tiled roof. The interior was uninspected; however, original features may remain and influence the building’s dating.
