Description

Sneydhurst is a house dating from around 1840, with an early 20th-century addition. It has stucco walls, a shallow-pitched slate roof with wide, overhanging eaves and gable ends, and rendered brick stacks at the gable ends. The house is arranged with a double-depth plan, featuring a central stairhall and a principal room on either side, with smaller service rooms behind.

The symmetrical front facade has three windows to each floor. It features original 12-pane sash windows without horns, accompanied by contemporary shutters. A central gabled porch is also probably original, incorporating a round-headed arched doorway, and it shelters an original panelled and glazed front door. Contemporary verandahs are situated on either side, supported by Corinthian iron posts. A slightly projecting wing was added in the 20th century on the right-hand side. A late 19th-century conservatory, with coloured glass windows and door, projects from the left end. The rear facade has irregular window placement, with three original sash windows.

The interior retains much original joinery, including panelled doors and a staircase with turned newels, stick balusters, and carved brackets. Both principal rooms have original marble fireplaces, featuring reeded surrounds, roundels at the top corners, and decorative arched iron grates. The left-hand room has a decorative cornice and a ceiling rose.
