Description

This chest tomb, located approximately 8 metres southeast of the chancel of the Parish Church of St Mary in Newton Abbot, is dedicated to Christopher Vallance, who tragically drowned after falling overboard in the Bay of Cape Broyle, Newfoundland. The tomb is dated 1802 and features a flat top made of Devon limestone, with a plinth and side plaques. The sides are constructed from white freestone and are adorned with clasping pilasters that have moulded plinths and capitals, as well as vase swellings positioned below the centres.
