Description
This is a threshing barn located about 20 meters west of Little Hackworthy, with possible origins in the late medieval period and a roof that was re-done in the 19th century. The barn is constructed of cob on stone rubble footings and has a corrugated asbestos roof that is gabled at both ends. It is a large rectangular structure featuring opposed double doors, and the floor is raised on large rocks to allow for airflow beneath the threshing floor. There is a lofted lean-to that adjoins the right end of the barn. The building shows patching in stone rubble and brick, particularly at the left end. It is a single-storey barn that was formerly lofted, with a large doorway on the front that has cob cheeks and a similar doorway at the rear. A loft doorway on the front to the right may have been added in the 19th century. Inside, there are 19th-century roof trusses and a slit window that is only visible from the interior; this may be a late medieval feature, as it is a narrow lancet made from a single piece of wood. The barn has group value with Little Hackworthy.
