Description
The Church Room is a schoolroom that is now used as a church room, dating from the early 19th century or possibly earlier. It is constructed of rendered cob with a slate roof that has gabled ends, and features a projecting stack with a brick shaft on the left gable end. The building is located adjacent to the churchyard, south of the church, with its first floor level matching that of the graveyard. There is a doorway at the right gable end, accessed by steps from Church Lane. The schoolroom consists of a single heated room above a ground floor storage space.
The building is two storeys tall and has an asymmetrical south front. This front features three first floor two-light iron casement windows with hasp handles and square-leaded panes. The ground floor includes a doorway on the right and a boarded timber mullioned window on the left. Steps lead up to the first floor doorway at the right gable end, and there is a mounting block to the left of the building.
Inside, the schoolroom is plain, with the principal rafters of two roof trusses visible. A cupboard on the north wall may indicate where a former doorway once led directly into the churchyard. The interior of the ground floor was not inspected. This small building remains largely unaltered since the 20th century and is an important part of the church's setting.
