Description

Castle Tearooms is a cottage and lookout tower, now serving as tearooms, dated 1856 with a mid-20th century extension. It features painted stone rubble and a flat roof. The building has a small one-room plan with the lookout tower located to the south. The exterior is two storeys tall and built in a castellated style. The 20th-century extension is positioned in front of the original doorway, which has been widened for the tearooms. This side has no windows, while the other sides have relatively small openings fitted with 20th-century casements that include glazing bars, except for the lookout tower, which has a segmental arch over a sash window without glazing bars. The castellated parapet projects on a corbel course, stepping up to a higher level on the southern side where the lookout tower rises, also featuring an embattled parapet. The interior has not been inspected. The building is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
